Is Windows XP worth upgrading to from Windows ME?

Windows XP just came out and I'm running Windows ME right now. My ME crashes constantly — I get the blue screen of death at least twice a week. I have a Pentium III 600MHz with 128MB of RAM. Is XP stable enough to upgrade to? Does it run old games? My friend says it requires 128MB minimum. Should I upgrade?
