How do I take better photos with a digital camera?
All my vacation photos turn out blurry, dark, or just boring. I have a Canon PowerShot with 5 megapixels. Is it the camera or am I doing something wrong? What's the rule of thirds I keep hearing about? Should I use the flash indoors? The auto mode seems to work sometimes but not always.

Whatever you pick, the most important thing is that you actually enjoy it. There's no point owning the 'best' gear if you never use it. I've seen people get so caught up in specs that they forget to have fun with the hobby.

My buddy got me into this and the best thing he did was let me try his stuff before I bought anything. See if you have a friend who's already into it, or check if there's a local club. Hands-on beats reading reviews any day.
Don't spend a lot of money right away. The industry changes constantly and what's considered the best today will be outdated in a year or two. Start with a mid-range option and you'll be happy.
