Is it true that AOL is sending out free CDs to everyone?
I get an AOL CD in the mail almost every week, plus they're in magazines and even free at the grocery store. They must be spending a fortune making all these CDs. Why would they give away that many? Does anyone actually use them? What a waste of plastic. How long has AOL been doing this?

First thing I'd do is reboot and try again. Sounds dumb but you'd be amazed how many 'tech problems' fix themselves with a restart. If that doesn't work, write down the EXACT error message and search for it — somebody on Experts-Exchange or a Geocities help page has hit the same thing.
I work in IT and see this question a lot. The short answer is yes, it's worth doing. The long answer depends on your specific setup. What operating system are you running? That makes a big difference in the approach.
It depends a lot on your connection speed. If you're still on dial-up, some of this just isn't going to work well no matter what. Broadband makes a night-and-day difference. Is DSL or cable available in your area yet?
