Finally getting broadband! I can get DSL at 768kbps for $49/mo or cable at 1.5Mbps for $44/mo. DSL is from the phone company, cable from the cable company. Any strong opinions?

Cable is faster per dollar. DSL speed depends on your distance from the central office — ask the phone company how far you are before committing.

Cable is shared with neighbors. In the evenings, speeds can drop significantly. DSL is a dedicated connection — more consistent.

Either is a massive upgrade from 56K. Just get whatever is available first — you'll love it.
