Lord of the Rings opens December 19th. I've read the books three times and I'm terrified they'll mess it up like the 1978 animated version. The trailer looks incredible. Is anyone else cautiously optimistic?

Peter Jackson is a genius — watch Heavenly Creatures if you haven't. The behind-the-scenes footage shows insane attention to detail. I have full faith.

The casting looks perfect. Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. If they nail the Mines of Moria sequence I'll be happy.
