Started running at 6am this year. I'm up to 5 miles without stopping. Anyone have tips for building up to a 10K? I want to run a race by October.

Couch to 5K program first, then bridge to 10K. The key is never increasing your weekly mileage more than 10% per week — that's how you avoid injury.

Get a heart rate monitor. Running too hard every day is why most people quit. Easy runs should feel almost embarrassingly slow.

Signed up for a 10K in September! Terrified but committed. Thanks for the tips.
