Just finished the Throne of Bhaal expansion and I'm comfortable saying Baldur's Gate II is the greatest computer RPG ever made. The writing, the companions (Minsc and Boo forever), the sheer scope of the adventure. 200+ hours of content.

Imelda's romance subplot hit me harder than most actual novels. BioWare understands characters like nobody else.

Go for the eyes, Boo! GO FOR THE EYES! Best companion in any game ever. Minsc is a treasure.

BG2 ruined me for other RPGs. Nothing else comes close to the depth of the D&D mechanics and the quality of the writing. Planescape: Torment might be the only competition.

Throne of Bhaal is an incredible conclusion. The power scaling at the end is just bonkers. You genuinely feel like a demigod.

I'm on my third playthrough with a completely different party and I'm STILL finding new content. The game is impossibly dense.
