Expected a dumb kids movie, got one of the funniest films of the year. The fairy tale parody is brilliant, Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy have incredible chemistry, and the animation from DreamWorks is stunning.

The Matrix bullet-time parody with Fiona had me howling. This might be the most rewatchable movie of 2001.

Eddie Murphy as Donkey is one of the best vocal performances in animation history. Every line is gold. 'In the morning, I'm making waffles!'

The Smash Mouth needle drop at the beginning is genius. Sets the tone immediately — this isn't your parents' fairy tale.

Watched it with my kids expecting to be bored. I laughed harder than they did. Genuinely clever writing.
