Anyone watching Buffy this season? The show has taken a seriously dark turn. Without spoiling too much, the musical episode was a masterpiece but the overall tone has shifted dramatically from earlier seasons.

Is this bold storytelling or has the show lost its way? I'm on the fence.

Once More With Feeling is the best episode of television this year, and I'm including Sopranos in that comparison. The fact that it works as both a musical AND advances the plot is incredible.

The dark tone is intentional and I think it's working. Season 5 ended on such a huge note that going darker makes sense. Growing up is hard, even for vampire slayers.

I miss the lighter seasons but I respect what they're doing. The writing is still sharp even when the subject matter is heavy.
