Slipknot — Iowa is the heaviest album of the year

Iowa is terrifying. The self-titled debut was heavy but Iowa is another level of intensity. People = Sh*t is the most aggressive opening track on any album this year. Disasterpiece is relentless.

The masks are either the dumbest or the greatest thing in metal depending on who you ask. I think they're genius — the anonymity lets the music speak for itself.

Iowa is a punishing listen in the best way. It makes most other metal albums sound tame. Corey Taylor's range from screaming to singing is incredible.

Saw them live and it was genuinely the most intense concert experience of my life. The energy of 9 people on stage is something else entirely.

My Plague on the Resident Evil soundtrack is what got me into them. Now I'm deep in the catalog. This band is something special.
