With the Fellowship movie coming out I decided to finally read the trilogy. About 400 pages into Fellowship and I'm hooked. The pacing is slower than modern fantasy but the worldbuilding is unparalleled. Tom Bombadil is... interesting. I hear he's not in the movie. Probably a good call lol. How long did it take everyone to get through all three books? |

Took me about 3 weeks to read all three when I was 16. The Two Towers middle section drags a bit but Return of the King is worth every page. |

The Appendices are actually fascinating if you have the patience. The full history of Middle-earth extends thousands of years beyond the main story. |

Tom Bombadil is the most divisive character in all of fantasy literature and I kind of love him for it. |
