Been drawing traditionally (pencil, ink, watercolor) for years and just got a Wacom tablet. The learning curve is steep — drawing while looking at a screen instead of your hand is weird.

Do digital artists still do traditional work too? Or does one eventually take over?

Both! Traditional skills make your digital work better and vice versa. The fundamentals of drawing, composition, and color theory are the same regardless of medium.

Painter 7 is incredible for mimicking traditional media digitally. The watercolor brushes feel almost real. If you're coming from traditional, you'll feel at home.
