DVD-R burners have dropped to around $300. That's still expensive but 4.7GB per disc is incredible — equivalent to about 7 CDs. For backing up large projects and video, the capacity is a game changer.

Anyone taken the plunge? DVD-R vs DVD+R — does the format war matter?

Wait another 6 months. Prices will drop to $150-200 and the format war will shake out. Right now it's too early to pick a winner.

I bought a Pioneer DVR-A03 and it's been excellent. DVD-R seems to have wider compatibility with standalone DVD players.
