Not just superhero stuff — what comic/graphic novel series are people reading in 2001? I just finished Preacher by Garth Ennis and it's one of the best things I've ever read in any medium.

What else should I be reading? I'm open to anything — superhero, indie, manga, whatever.

Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis. Cyberpunk journalism in a dystopian future. Spider Jerusalem is one of the best characters in comics. Essential reading.

Ultimate Spider-Man by Bendis is reinventing the character brilliantly. And Y: The Last Man just started — the premise is incredible.

If you liked Preacher, try The Authority. Same publisher (Wildstorm/DC), same willingness to push boundaries. Widescreen superhero action at its best.

Bone by Jeff Smith. All-ages fantasy adventure that's better than most adult comics. Don't let the cartoon style fool you — it's deeply engaging.
