Want to scan my drawings and family photos to put on my website. Looking at flatbed scanners in the $100-200 range. The Epson Perfection and Canon CanoScan lines both look good.

What specs actually matter for photo scanning? DPI, color depth, software?

1200 DPI optical resolution is plenty for photos and art. Don't be fooled by 'interpolated' DPI numbers — they're just software upscaling. Optical is what matters.

Epson Perfection 1240U is the sweet spot at $130. Great color accuracy, good bundled software, and fast USB interface. I scan all my artwork with it.
