Reading habits — paper vs screen

I've been reading some articles and even some short fiction on my computer screen and my eyes hate me for it. CRT monitors are not designed for long-form reading.

Do you think we'll ever read books on screens? E-book readers exist but they're expensive and the screens are terrible. I think paper books are safe for a long time.

Paper books are irreplaceable. The tactile experience, the smell, the ability to flip back and forth easily. Screens will never replace that for me.

For reference material and documentation, I prefer screen reading. For novels and anything longer than 20 pages? Give me paper every time.

E-ink technology is promising but it's years away from being good enough for mainstream book reading. Check back in 2010 maybe.
