Connect to Flamenet with AIM

Classic AOL Instant Messenger, running on the Flamenet OSCAR server.

Flamenet runs a live OSCAR-protocol AIM server at aim.flamenet.io. Install a classic AIM 5.x client on your computer, point it at our server, and you are back online — buddy list, away messages, yellow running man and all.

Step 1 — Download AIM for your platform

Windows 10 / 11 Download AIM 5.9.6089 from oldversion.com. Requires a compatibility tweak — see the full guide below.
macOS Use the AIM for macOS project — works on Intel and Apple Silicon without a VM.
Linux / FreeBSD Run AIM 5.1.3036 under Wine. Installer on archive.org.

Step 2 — Point AIM at the Flamenet server

Once AIM is installed, configure it to use the Flamenet server instead of AOL’s:

  1. At the AIM sign-on screen, click Setup.
  2. Under Sign On/Off, click Connection.
  3. Enter the Flamenet server details:
Flamenet AIM Server
Host aim.flamenet.io
Port 5190
  1. Click OK.
  2. Sign in with your Flamenet AIM screen name and password.

Step 3 — Create a screen name

Don’t have an AIM screen name on Flamenet yet? Create one on the AIM Sign-In page. Once registered, use that screen name and password in step 5 above.

Full installation guide

For platform-specific installation steps — including the Windows aimapi.dll workaround and compatibility mode settings — read the complete guide in the Knowledge Base:

How do I connect to AIM? — Full guide

Already connected? Head to the AIM Sign-In page on Flamenet, or use the AIM widget in the sidebar to sign in directly from the portal.
