Salon.com, the respected online magazine covering news, politics, culture, and technology, is seeking a Staff Writer / Editor on a 6-month contract basis, with potential for full-time conversion.

Responsibilities

• Write 3-5 original articles per week on technology, culture, or political topics
• Conduct interviews with sources and subject matter experts
• Edit and fact-check pieces by contributing writers
• Pitch story ideas in daily editorial meetings
• Optimize articles for web reading (headlines, subheads, links)

Requirements

• 3+ years of journalism or editorial experience
• Strong voice and ability to write with wit, clarity, and authority
• Familiarity with online publishing tools (HTML knowledge a plus)
• A genuine perspective and opinions you’re willing to defend
• Portfolio of published clips required with application
