NEON GENESIS EVANGELION
An Episode-by-Episode Analysis
"Get in the robot, Shinji."
What Does It All Mean?

I've watched End of Evangelion 7 times now and I think I finally understand (I don't). Here's my best interpretation:

Key Themes:
- The Hedgehog's Dilemma: wanting closeness but fearing pain
- Instrumentality = dissolving ego boundaries (Freudian!)
- Each Angel represents a different path of human evolution
- The AT Field is literally the barrier between human hearts

Character Analysis:
Shinji: NOT a coward. He's a traumatized kid with an abusive father who still gets in the robot. Give him a break.

Asuka: Her aggression masks deep insecurity. Episode 22 (Director's Cut) is devastating.

Rei: The most tragic character. She's searching for identity while being treated as replaceable.

Gendo: Everything he does is to reunite with Yui. He's the real villain but also pitiable.

End of Eva vs. Episodes 25-26:
They're BOTH the ending. 25-26 is what happens in Shinji's mind during Instrumentality. End of Eva is what happens externally. Both are canon. Stop arguing about this.

Congratulations!
