Overclocking my Athlon — how far can I push it?

Running an Athlon XP 1600+ and I want to see how much free performance I can squeeze out. I've got a decent cooler (Thermaltake Volcano 7) and good case airflow. Anyone have experience overclocking Palomino core Athlons? What's a safe voltage bump? I don't want to fry it but I'd like to push 1.5-1.6GHz if possible. |

Those Palomino cores OC pretty well. I got my 1600+ to 1.53GHz stable by bumping FSB to 145MHz. Voltage at 1.80V, temps stayed under 55C with a good cooler. |

Make sure your RAM can handle the increased FSB. That's usually what limits you, not the CPU itself. Get some quality PC2700 DDR if you're serious about overclocking. |

Use Prime95 to stress test for at least 24 hours before you call it stable. Anything less and you'll get random crashes under load. |
