Gorillaz — virtual band or real music?

Damon Albarn created a virtual cartoon band and somehow it's one of the best albums of the year. Clint Eastwood, 19-2000, Rock the House — the music is genuinely excellent regardless of the concept. The animation by Jamie Hewlett is beautiful. Is this the future of music — anonymous artists behind animated personas? |

The 19-2000 Soulchild Remix is pure joy. That chorus is unshakeable. Damon Albarn is a genius for pulling this off. |

It's a novelty that happens to have incredible music. Blur fans might be confused but Gorillaz stands completely on its own. |
