Air travel after 9/11 — what's it like now?

Has anyone flown recently? I have a trip planned for next month and I'm dreading the security situation. I've heard you need to arrive 3 hours early now, no more meeting people at the gate, and random searches are intense.

How bad is it really? I haven't flown since September.

Flew last week. Get there early, be patient, don't bring anything that looks remotely suspicious. They confiscated my nail clippers. But the actual flying was fine — planes are less crowded because people are afraid to fly.

The National Guard soldiers with rifles at the airport are unsettling. But the actual security process, while slower, wasn't as bad as I expected.

Bring a good book. The wait times are real. But honestly I'd rather wait an extra hour and feel safer.
