Stargazing spots — where's the darkest sky you've found?

Drove 2 hours outside the city last weekend to escape light pollution and the night sky was absolutely breathtaking. Could see the Milky Way clearly for the first time in years. The difference from my suburban backyard was staggering.

Where are the best dark sky locations near you?

Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania is officially designated as a dark sky park. The Milky Way casts visible shadows there. It's a pilgrimage-worthy experience.

Any national park in the desert Southwest. Big Bend, Capitol Reef, Great Basin. The dry air and remote locations make for incredible stargazing.

Even a 30-minute drive from a mid-size city makes a huge difference. Find a rural area with no street lights and give your eyes 20 minutes to adapt. You'll be amazed.
