Content mills pay a penny a word - thats a trap. Aim for 10 cents minimum. Established markets pay 50 cents to a dollar.

Always get a signed agreement with payment terms. Invoice promptly. A polite follow-up after 30 days is professional, not pushy.

A sharp query letter sells your idea, not the whole article. Study the magazine, pitch a specific angle, follow their guidelines exactly.

Outline first, write ugly, edit later. The blank page is the enemy. Bad words on paper beat perfect words in your head.

Start with local businesses that need website copy. A newsletter, a brochure, an About page. Build a portfolio piece by piece.
