Hand-building and wheel-throwing clay. Glazing, kiln firing, and studio setup. From your first lopsided bowl to functional pottery.
Bob Nakamura   Finding a community kiln Dec 28, 2026 6:24 pm
Kilns are expensive. Many community studios and colleges let you fire pieces for a small fee. Ask around before buying your own.

Has anyone else tried this? I am curious about other experiences.
Alice Hartwell Dec 28, 2026 6:24 am
I second this recommendation. Have been using it for months.
Bob Nakamura Dec 28, 2026 5:24 pm
Great explanation! Even a beginner like me could follow every step.
Avtoservis_hnei Dec 28, 2026 9:24 pm
This reminds me of a similar situation I had. The solution was patience.
Avtoservis_inei   Understanding glazes Dec 28, 2026 11:24 am
Glazes are glass chemistry. Test tiles before committing to a whole piece. The same glaze looks different at different temperatures.

I was skeptical at first but you convinced me. Going to give it a shot this week.

Avtoservis_inei   Hand-building without a wheel Dec 15, 2026 7:24 pm
Pinch pots, coil building, and slab construction need no wheel at all. A whole world of pottery without the expensive equipment.
Bob Nakamura Dec 15, 2026 10:24 pm
Been doing this for years. Can confirm it is worth the effort.

Bob Nakamura   Centering clay on the wheel Nov 26, 2026 3:24 am
Centering is the hardest beginner skill and the foundation of everything. Steady hands, braced elbows, and patience. It will click.
Alice Hartwell Nov 28, 2026 5:24 pm
Respectfully, my mileage varied. But I can see why this works for most people.
Avtoservis_inei   Trimming and finishing Sep 25, 2026 7:24 am
Trimming the foot when leather-hard transforms a clunky pot into a refined one. Dont skip this step.
