Using pace and pause

Telling personal stories well

Dont memorize word for word - learn the bones of the story. Then it lives and breathes differently every telling.

Finding storytelling events

Story slams, library events, and storytelling guilds are everywhere once you look. The Moth-style open mic is a great place to start.

Storytelling for children

Repetition, sound effects, and audience participation. Kids want to be part of the story. Let them roar and clap along.

Respectfully, my mileage varied. But I can see why this works for most people.
