Wireless internet at home — is WiFi ready for prime time?

Thinking about getting a wireless access point for my home network. The Linksys WAP11 does 802.11b at 11Mbps. Is that fast enough for regular internet use? And is the security adequate?

The idea of using my laptop anywhere in the house is very appealing.

11Mbps is way more than enough for internet use. Even cable internet tops out at 3-4Mbps. WiFi handles it easily. I've been wireless for 6 months and love it.

WEP encryption is the standard but it's been shown to have weaknesses. For a home network it's probably fine but don't use it for anything truly sensitive.

The range can be an issue in larger houses. I had to add a second access point for the upstairs to get a reliable signal. But in an apartment? Works perfectly.
