The luminous, unpredictable world of watercolor. Wet-on-wet, glazing, color mixing, and paper choice. Share your paintings and learn together.

Wet-on-wet gives soft, blooming washes. Wet-on-dry gives crisp edges. Knowing when to use each is the heart of the medium.

Has anyone else tried this? I am curious about other experiences.

Update from my earlier post: tried it and it works like a charm. Thank you!!!

Tube greens look artificial. Mix your own from blues and yellows. A touch of red mutes them into believable natural tones.

A few good tubes beats a big cheap set. Get a warm and cool of each primary, one good brush, and proper watercolor paper.

My experience: it depends on your specific situation but generally this is good advice.

Beginners overwork everything. Let the water do the work. Some of the best passages happen when you step away and let it dry.

Interesting perspective. I never thought about it that way before.

Just tried this and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the tip!
Avtoservis_hnei   Saving your whites Nov 12, 2025 7:32 am
Watercolor has no white paint - the paper is your white. Plan your highlights, use masking fluid, and paint around them.

This reminds me of a similar situation I had. The solution was patience.

My results were slightly different but in the same ballpark. Good advice overall.

My setup is slightly different but I adapted this advice and it worked great.
