Frank Okonkwo   Directing your first show Dec 16, 2026 10:35 pm
Cast well and half your job is done. Have a clear vision but listen to your actors. Block early, then refine.

I had given up on this entirely and your post got me to try again. Glad I did.

This is why I love this group. Real advice from real people.

Does this work for everyone or just certain setups? Asking because my situation is a bit different.

Donated lumber, paint flats reused from show to show, and clever lighting. A great set is design, not money.

My setup is slightly different but I adapted this advice and it worked great.

Avtoservis_inei   Memorizing lines fast Oct 13, 2026 10:35 am
Write them out, record yourself, run lines with a partner. Learn cues, not just your lines. The other actors words trigger yours.

Frank Okonkwo   Audition tips for community theater Aug 27, 2026 8:35 am
Pick a monologue that fits the show, memorize it cold, and make bold choices. Directors want to see commitment, not perfection.

Took me a while to wrap my head around this but it makes total sense now.

Adding one tip: make sure you double-check everything before you start. Trust me.

Honestly this should be in the FAQ. Beginners ask this every single week.
Dave Modem   Stage fright is normal Aug 13, 2026 7:35 pm
Even veterans get nervous. Channel it into energy. The fear fades the moment you step into the light and become the character.

Update from my earlier post: tried it and it works like a charm. Thank you!!!

My results were slightly different but in the same ballpark. Good advice overall.
