A basic station logs temperature, humidity, wind, and rain. Watching your own data builds real understanding of local weather.

Know the difference between a watch and a warning. Have a plan, have a weather radio, and take warnings seriously.

The National Weather Service offers free SKYWARN spotter training. Trained eyes on the ground save lives. Highly recommended.

Reading clouds for a forecast

Cirrus means weather is changing, cumulonimbus means storms are coming. The sky tells you the forecast if you learn to read it.
