Learn a few bright constellations as signposts, then star-hop from there. A planisphere is the perfect cheap tool.

I am bookmarking, printing, AND saving this to a floppy. Too good to lose.

Even in the suburbs you can observe. A dark cloth over your head, the right targets, and a drive to darker skies when you can.

This group is the best. Always helpful and never judgmental.

Donna Vasquez   What can I see with binoculars? Jan 9, 2026 2:48 pm
A surprising amount. The Moon, Jupiters moons, star clusters, and the Andromeda Galaxy. Start with binoculars before a telescope.

The amount of free knowledge in this group is incredible. Better than any book.

I created a FAQ document based on this discussion. Happy to share if anyone wants it.

The Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades. Bright, easy targets that hook you on the hobby. Start here.

Sharing the planets, conjunctions, and deep-sky objects well placed right now. Clear skies, everyone!

Quick question: does this apply to the newer version too or just the old one?
Donna Vasquez Nov 4, 2025 3:48 pm
Tried three different approaches before this one worked. Persistence pays off.
