Usenet newsgroups, mailing lists, and email culture. Netiquette, killfiles, threading, and the discussions that built the early internet.

A killfile lets you ignore the trolls and spam silently. Curate your own reading experience. Peace through filtering.

This is why I love this group. Real advice from real people.
Dave Modem   Usenet is still alive Dec 5, 2025 1:58 pm
The newsgroups never died. Some are quiet, some still buzz. A good newsreader and the right groups are a hidden treasure.

Tried three different approaches before this one worked. Persistence pays off.

The amount of free knowledge in this group is incredible. Better than any book.

First post here after lurking forever. This community seems really friendly.

Respectfully, my mileage varied. But I can see why this works for most people.

Donna Vasquez   Netiquette never went out of style Nov 24, 2025 7:58 pm
Quote only what you reply to, dont top-post, lurk before posting. The old rules still make online discussion better.

My neighbor told me the same thing last week. Must be legit.

My two cents: start simple and build from there. Dont overcomplicate it.

Couldnt agree more. Wish more people understood this before jumping in.

This is the kind of content that makes online communities worthwhile.
admin   Mailing lists vs forums Nov 11, 2025 4:58 am
Mailing lists come to you, forums you visit. A good list digest keeps you in a community without another tab to check.
admin Nov 11, 2025 11:58 am
Adding one tip: make sure you double-check everything before you start. Trust me.

Just shared this thread with my friend who has the same question. Great resource!
Avtoservis_gmei Nov 13, 2025 7:58 pm
Does this work for everyone or just certain setups? Asking because my situation is a bit different.
Donna Vasquez Nov 15, 2025 9:58 pm
Coming back to confirm this advice was spot on. Problem solved!
Donna Vasquez   The art of the email signature Aug 30, 2025 4:58 pm
A short signature with your name and maybe a quote. Four lines maximum - that was always the rule. Sharing favorites.

I was skeptical at first but you convinced me. Going to give it a shot this week.

I made every mistake in this thread before finding it. Wish I had read it sooner.
